It was a Saturday morning and the day shift came in to a tough situation involving a term fetal demise. This was a brand new experience for 2 of the staff on with Wendy. The other nurse wanted to take the patient, with the understanding that she wanted all of the support Wendy could give, given the severity of the situation in which she was new to. I, being the CAN/Unit Secretary, had also never had to deal with this situation, so there were lots of questions for Wendy about what I needed to do, and what I could do to help. Wendy was supportive of her fellow staff, extremely compassionate to the poor mom who was grieving, and exceptionally professional throughout the whole experience. I cannot speak for the other staff on that day, but I can tell you what – I was terrified when I came in that day and realized what we had going on. Wendy is not only an amazing nurse, but her compassion toward her patients is second-to-none. It made a terrible, new situation a whole lot less scary for me.
