Practicing with passion and celebrating life are phrases that thoroughly describe Dr. Viox’s attitude and approach to every situation, and every family.
Dale Viox, DNP, CRNA, MSN, RN, EMT, and I have worked side by side for almost eleven years. Day in and day out he exemplifies excellence not only in his professionalism, but also in his attitude, skill set, and demeanor. I simply cannot say enough about his work ethic and how his calming presence can completely put a room at ease. I have witnessed it many times over. I can, without reservation, say that Dr. Viox is the person you want in any crisis whether it be clinically related or psychosocial in nature. If I personally required anesthesia, there is no one that I would trust more with my care. His ability to relate to children of all ages and at the same time with their parents is unparalleled. I am honored to work alongside him. I believe that our CRNAs, especially Dale, do not receive the award attention they deserve because they have limited interaction with parents and the parents do not realize how well a crisis was handled, which is amazing but at the same time should be recognized. Dale simply and humbly goes about delivering the best care to our children. It is amazing to watch.

Fostering hope is something that we all struggle with at St. Jude sometimes. It is amazing to watch such a skilled and seasoned provider demonstrate a high level of care no matter the situation. His upbeat attitude means so much to the patients and family here regardless of the situation, and at a minimum allows them to temporarily forget their situation and the fear of going to sleep with anesthesia. I have never seen Dr. Viox without a smile on his face and a positive attitude to whatever task lies ahead.

The virus never slowed him down, despite many having difficulty with adjustment. He exudes hope and positivity. Practicing with passion and celebrating life are phrases that thoroughly describe Dr. Viox’s attitude and approach to every situation, and every family. In the almost eleven years I have witnessed him provide anesthesia at St. Jude, I have never heard him utter a cross word or even raise his voice, no matter how chaotic the situation. It’s as if he becomes calmer as the situation escalates. I cannot recall the number of times a parent has told Dr. Viox “I trust you”. It is a quiet confidence and professionalism that is evident once he enters a room.

It is a pleasure to work with Dale and even more, fun to watch him work. He has been an amazing peer, taking unparalleled care of our patients for nearly eleven years. He is always quick with a cheerful word, smile, and compliment. He continually goes above and beyond for the families of St. Jude. I felt compelled to give examples of how he represents every aspect of the DAISY Award, day in and day out. I am honored to nominate him.
