My father, was in the ICU at Banner University - Tucson, for ten days (after open-heart surgery) , when he passed. Yvette was my father’s nurse on many of those days. Words cannot describe the impact that Yvette had on my father, myself, and my family. First and foremost, she delivered expert care. My dad was critically ill (on ECMO, Impella, dialysis, and ventilator), and on several occasions, he was in a "soft code" situation. Her expertise, attention, and quick thinking saved his life on more than one occasion. Secondary, and of equal importance, Yvette guided me, my mother, and my brother through the hardest 10 days of our lives. She communicated clearly and with compassion which showed that she was personally vested in the outcome. I have been a physician for 19 years and have practiced in different settings. Yvette represents the gold standard that all providers should try to work towards. I have never witnessed this level of expertise, compassion, and dedication. Yvette has been a blessing to my father, myself, and my family. We will always remember her, and she embodies what The DAISY Award stands for.
