Shannon brought the patient in to look at those clothes, and to see the smile on her face you would think she was inside of a showroom full of the most luxurious clothes.
Shannon Morris joined the 11500 unit in July of 2022 and in her month of being with the unit, Shannon has made impacts that will last a lifetime. Shannon has a calm, gentle energy about her and can be usually seen moving at the speed of light to help not only her patients but ANY nurse that may need help.
Shannon brings real-life experiences and compassion to the bedside when caring for her patients. Shannon was assigned a young woman, who had been very depressed and due to her medical condition was unable to care for herself how she would have wanted. Shannon made sure she took care of all her other patients before going into the room and showed that patient what CARE looked like. She washed and combed the patient's hair; she cleaned and clipped her nails. Before she left the room Shannon encouraged the patient by reassuring her that "It's going to be all right!" Shannon shared her own personal story of growth with the patient and by the time this personal spa day was done, the patient felt better and wore a smile on her face. So, thank you, Shannon.
Also, Shannon overheard leadership discussing one of our younger patients on the unit and how she needed to have certain things when it was time for discharge. Shannon did not ask one question, except for what were the sizes that we needed. Shannon reached out to her father, whose church provides clothing items for those in need, and not even one week later, Shannon showed up to work with 2 bags of clothing items. Before going to lunch, Shannon brought the patient in to look at those clothes, and to see the smile on her face you would think she was inside of a showroom full of the most luxurious clothes. The patient thanked Shannon as she pulled the oversized skirts and shirts out, the patient squealed as she looked at the bright color and gave hugs to show how grateful she was. It is beyond a pleasure to see a nurse go above and beyond for her patients. So, thank you, Shannon.
Shannon loves her job and is an AMAZING nurse! Life has a way of being one of the best teachers and I believe that Shannon's life is one to look at and take specific gems from. She goes above and beyond without question, she works to ensure the unit is set for up success, and she treats every patient with care and compassion while listening and being there. Shannon is truly an example of treating others how you want to be treated and for that reason and many more I KNOW Shannon Morris is a true DAISY Nurse.
