Sarah graciously accompanied this patient for numerous days to help with this endeavor.
When approached with the question, "Would you want to help with transporting a patient to radiation/oncology on another unit?" Sarah immediately responded, "I can help. Would you need me tomorrow?" Arrangements were made for a patient on 4SW, an adult medical unit at WYH, to be transported daily (Monday-Friday) to outpatient radiation/oncology for the next month. The patient had complex needs that required an RN to assist with transporting the patient, tasking the WYH Nursing team to arrange staffing to meet the needs of this patient. Sarah graciously accompanied this patient for numerous days to help with this endeavor.
Sarah entered the patient's room and noticed an instant smile on her face and immediate excitement from her daughter. Sarah had made her time with the patient extremely special, playing her favorite country music on the transport rides and even helping to download Pandora on the patient's personal cell phone for her to enjoy on her own. She even brought the patient her own favorite tissues, as the patient struggles with increased secretions. Sarah is truly a DAISY Nurse, as she certainly made a difference in the stay (and life, if you consider the Pandora experience) of this long-term patient.
