Sydney is the epitome of what a nurse should be. She is kind, caring, compassionate, a team player, and daily goes above and beyond what is required or expected of her. At the beginning of July, we lost our Nurse Navigator/Manager to the beach life in Daytona. Since then, Sydney has taken on many management roles and responsibilities and has shown true leadership to our entire team, including Medical Oncology. She has gotten her certifications in Radiation as well as Chemotherapy and is respected and looked up to throughout our department. She goes the extra mile with each patient she cares for. For example, on a routine on-treatment appointment with a Radiation patient, Sydney heard an unusual heart rhythm. She advised the patient to go to ER and she ended up having a pacemaker placed later that day. If not for Sydney’s meticulous and exceptional care, there could have been a much worse ending to that day for that family. She is dependable, consistent, a role model, and a true joy to work with. She is the most humble but deserving nurse I know and that makes her perfectly fitting for this award.
