Houria was able to navigate a very emotionally charged office visit.
Houria displays genuine empathy and truly has a gift for caring for others. She utilizes her training as an RN to embody the characteristics patients look for in healers- she is patient, she is an excellent listener, she has a strong clinical acumen, and she is tremendously hard-working. Houria managed a very difficult case in which an elderly patient with progressive dementia was brought to our outpatient clinic by her daughter-in-law, who was also the POA. The patient's daughter-in-law made threatening comments about the elderly patient, and Houria was able to navigate a very emotionally charged office visit and firmly express to me upon exiting the room two things: 1. This patient is not safe at home, and 2. We have to do something to help her. Houria and I then stayed well after clinic hours coordinating an admission to an outside hospital where the patient ended up staying for two weeks for medication adjustments. No matter how difficult the problem or how long it may take, Houria always puts the patient first. She is a courageous patient advocate and an excellent ambassador for the nursing profession.
