As nerve-wracking as this entire situation was, Christina was a bright light that helped my wife, and my entire family through a difficult time.
My wife B was admitted with a subarachnoid hemorrhage to the Neuro ICU. The entire team of nurses was fantastic, each of them exhibited the care, understanding, and relationship that made dealing with this whole ordeal as tolerable as possible. However, there were a couple of nurses that really stood out to my family. Christina was one of those nurses. She was absolutely amazing in explaining each and every procedure that my wife had, explaining the medicine she was taking, and why she was taking it. She put us at ease with what was happening and happily answered any questions we had (and we asked a lot!)
When Christina was not her nurse, she stopped in to see her and check on her progress. When she saw her in the unit she was encouraging and supportive and reassuring when we were at our most vulnerable. She took better care of B than we could have imagined. When my wife had progressed to the point where she was transferred off the ICU floor, Christina even took the time to wash and detangle my wife’s hair, which was matted and still had blood and sticky betadine in it from the drain that was put in place. Christina could have just given the materials to us to do, she could have not done anything but was determined to make sure that my wife was comfortable. B felt so much more like herself. She also took the time to walk with her constantly, making sure that she got her exercises in and making sure she was ready to eventually go home.
Without question, Christina personifies the definition of this award. As nerve-wracking as this entire situation was, Christina was a bright light that helped my wife, and my entire family through a difficult time. I was so impressed with her from the beginning, and I am so grateful and thankful she was here when we needed her. She is an amazing nurse.
