Leah kept following closely with the patient's progress and even picked up extra shifts to be the nurse for this patient when she was coming out of her isolation status.
Leah went above and beyond for a 24-year-old pregnant patient who was COVID positive. Leah recognized when the patient was starting to deteriorate, required bipap and then intubation, and advocated for both the patient and her baby. The patient ended up getting a c-section but was still critically ill enough to remain intubated in the ICU after delivery. Once the patient was able to be extubated, Leah ensured that she was able to begin pumping breastmilk by getting her the necessary supplies and assisting the patient in the use of the hospital's pump until the patient's own pump was delivered. Leah kept following closely with the patient's progress and even picked up extra shifts to be the nurse for this patient when she was coming out of her isolation status and going to meet her newborn baby for the first time. Leah also advocated for this patient by communicating about the patient's hospitalization timeline, and breast-pumping schedule, keeping the patient's family updated and providing excellent patient centered-care, and collaborating with the L&D and NICU RNs during the patient's stay. Leah exemplifies many qualities of what it means to be a Boone nurse- a patient advocate, a team player, and an open communicator, with clinical experience and foresight. Leah is an asset to Boone.
