Julie is extremely knowledgeable regarding the state of nursing on a local, regional and national level and how it impacts Nebraska Medicine, both today and in the future.
Julie personifies the leadership values of the DAISY Nurse Leader Award. She is a trusted leader and is respected by colleagues and staff, both within Nebraska Medicine and throughout the community. She is the person that people think of when looking for recommendations or access to healthcare for either themselves or their family and friends.
Julie has been in the organization for over 35 years and has had a positive impact on many who have looked to her for professional guidance. She values relationship building which is demonstrated by her frequent rounding at both BMC and Nebraska Medicine. She recognizes the value of the coordinated efforts to streamline operations and provide excellent patent care at NMC.
Julie truly is a transformational leader. She provides clarity, alignment, and focus. She fosters open and honest communication and is very transparent. She holds everyone equally accountable. She has an open door policy listens and allows others to problem solve and identify solutions to problems. She always inspires others to do better! Julie shows appreciation for contributions and hard work during challenging times. She enjoys discussing with staff why they became a nurse, and why they work at the organization and proceeds to ask if they need any additional support from her.
Often times during rounding, new nurses approach her with stories of how she inspired them to be a nurse. Julie is well known among those teams who support nursing to care for our patients. For those she meets, they are only a stranger once and she calls everyone by their first name.

Julie understands the need to develop a supportive work environment for nurses and all staff and has worked with the Public Safety team to ensure our staff are safe when caring for violent patients and/or interacting with family members.
Julie empowers and trusts her team to complete assigned tasks and she secures resources so they can be successful. She is passionate about patient care and keeps the patient’s best interest in the forefront of all of her decisions. She works well with other divisions and shows appreciation for their role in providing excellent care for our patients.
