Precious is always looking out for what is best for her patients.
Mrs. Thibodeaux discussed a clinical experience she had while doing her precepting charge shift in the ED. She accompanied a male nurse who had to give a female patient an enema. She saw the fear and pain on the patient's face while recognizing the safety hazard omitted by the male nurse by having the patient turn on their side where the bed rail was down. She realized this was a safety hazard that could have resulted in a fall. She reminded the nurse of the safety precautions that need to be maintained and went to that area of the bed and put up the rail.
Additionally, she asked the patient if she would like to hold her hand while getting the enema and told her it was ok if she needed to squeeze her hand as hard as she needed to compensate for any pain she may have felt during the procedure. Precious is always looking out for what is best for her patients. She treats each patient with dignity and respect using a humanistic approach. That's Nursing!
