There have been countless times when Beidy has been speaking Spanish with a patient and their family, and they give her a soft smile or hold her hand in appreciation. It is a beautiful moment to witness.
Beidy is an outstanding and compassionate nurse. She takes time to holistically take care of patients and their needs. As a team, we witness Beidy’s compassion daily. Recently she had a patient whose family member had mobility issues and needed to go to the restroom. The family member was unable to wheel themselves to the restrooms down the hall. Beidy stepped in and assisted the family member to the restroom and ensured their dignity and safety.

Beidy also has a passion for making our Spanish-speaking patients and families comfortable. She makes sure to use the interpreter devices when appropriate, but puts patients and families at ease with her small talk in Spanish. She knows they often feel overlooked because they do not speak English. We see those patients relax, are calmer, and have better outcomes because of her passion to speak with patients. There have been countless times when Beidy has been speaking Spanish with a patient and their family, and they give her a soft smile or hold her hand in appreciation. It is a beautiful moment to witness.

Beidy’s selflessness and care go beyond her patients and their family members but include her co-workers as well. Beidy is the first to come and help with a code or RRT, assist with obtaining an IV, or pull a patient up in bed. Beidy shares her time and knowledge freely. When a patient coded recently she assisted a newer nurse during the code. The nurse was very nervous and blanked during the code while trying to answer the doctor’s questions. Beidy calmly and quietly stepped up and answered the doctor’s questions while simultaneously relieving pressure from the newer nurse. That nurse is forever grateful for her calmness and compassion during such a stressful time.

She will take the time to teach techs about things like chest tubes so they can take care of the patients. She is there to help with a gentle touch that always encourages, never demeaning. Beidy is an eager and helping hand when it comes to discharging patients, getting patients, and assisting with the general well-being of the unit. There are rare people who will show up at the right time, help you through the hard times, into your best of times- those are the keepers. This entire unit watched Beidy perform daily with dignity and grace through many situations, overcoming the worst of things. Three East is a better unit because of her. We love you Beidy!
