She held my hand. She made a difference by listening to my needs, taking the time to be compassionate and caring, and making sure that the pain was managed.
Peggy was my nurse the night of my hip replacement. She treated me with kindness and asked me about my situation. Even though she was extremely busy, she took time during each of our visits to carry on a small conversation. I could tell that she really appreciated her coworkers. She spoke of my CNA with such respect and admiration.

In the middle of the night, my pain was somewhat manageable but within 10 minutes, my situation changed drastically. Peggy assessed the situation minute by minute and noted that I had some severe breakthrough pain from the surgery. I can tell you that I have never had pain like that before in my life. It was every kind of pain you could imagine, coming on like a tsunami. She quickly changed her course of action and gave me the IV pain medication I needed. She stayed with me for a longer time to make sure that I had relief. She held my hand. She made a difference by listening to my needs, taking the time to be compassionate and caring, and making sure that the pain was managed. She not only managed my pain physically but also emotionally. It made a big difference.

She wasn’t the kind of person that came in and gave the pain medication and left. She had a positive attitude about her job. She expressed a love for the nursing profession. She started on the unit that she continues to work on. She told me that she was a night owl and she loved working the night shift. She showed critical thinking skills in her decisions regarding my care. I could tell she was a team player because she recognized others without even me asking. I felt she made a connection with me during the time that she had me as a patient.
