I was a patient in the antepartum wing due to my membranes rupturing prematurely. Lisa was my attending nurse. I had an uneventful morning with no signs of labor or baby distress, so I was good to start my day. I got up to shower and use the bathroom when my cord prolapsed. I immediately called my nurse, and she went into action to lay me down so that she could keep my baby’s head off the cord until he could be delivered. She called for backup and rode the bed with me to the OR. Her actions saved my baby’s life.

Once he was delivered, he showed no signs of lost oxygen due to cord compression thanks to Lisa’s ability to control his head while still inside of me. Also, she kept me calm during the frightening ordeal. After I woke up and was in recovery, she checked on me both medically and emotionally. She provided me with a lot of comfort. She even checked on me when she wasn’t my attending nurse during my stay. My baby is doing extremely well thanks to Lisa.
