LaTrecia cared for my father toward the end of his battle with esophageal cancer. We had worked together in the past and I knew she was a great nurse, but the care she gave my father deserves so much more than a thank you. He had been in and out of the hospital multiple times and it had been very hard on him and my family emotionally. LaTrecia always entered the room with a big beautiful smile and could make him laugh. Dad was an extremely funny man who loved to joke around, however, it had been more difficult as his illness progressed. LaTrecia lit up the room when she entered, saw past his illness, and helped bring out the best parts of him. She stayed on top of pain management and helped him through many anxiety attacks.

Even on days she wasn't directly caring for him (after being off for a few days) LaTrecia would come by to make Dad smile. He went on and on about how much it meant for nurses to come back and see him and how happy it made him. LaTrecia had a few more days off during which Dad entered hospice care. When LaTrecia heard this on return to work, she came and offered emotional support to my parents and surprised my mother and me with sweatshirts she made. They had one of our favorite bible verses on them. I will forever be thankful for her and the compassion and devotion to excellent care that she showed my family.
