Jess has a heart of gold and provided a wonderful gift to this patient and her husband.
Prior to Jessica transferring to Cardiology as a device nurse, she was an outstanding ICU RN. She went above and beyond every shift, providing compassionate care to all of her patients, was a leader on the unit, and a mentor to staff in all areas of the hospital.
During a COVID surge, she was caring for a COVID-positive patient in the ICU, nearing the end of her life. Due to COVID restrictions, the patient's husband was not able to physically visit her to say goodbye. The patient’s husband lived in an assisted living facility and after making several attempts to contact the patient’s husband, he was unable to be reached. After one of many long 12-hour shifts, Jessica drove to the facility where the patient's husband resided. She called a colleague, working with the patient at the hospital, and was able to connect the patient with her husband via facetime. The couple exchanged many "I love you's" and "kisses" in their final moments "together". The patient and her husband were given this precious time, because of Jess. Jess has a heart of gold and provided a wonderful gift to this patient and her husband. Nurses like Jess, make Mayo and the world, a better place.
