I am proud to nominate Rachel Bushnell and Lauren Grenon for the DAISY Award. I truly cannot think of two nurses more worthy of this recognition. They both go above and beyond to demonstrate kindness and compassion to everyone they meet. Never was this more evident than one particular tragic night in the Family Birth Center.

An expectant mother came in with her husband for a routine labor triage. The nurses and provider were unable to find heart tones in their term infant. A parent’s worst nightmare became this family’s reality. Their precious baby girl was gone.

Many people think our unit is about just holding babies and helping families with the fun things in life, but unfortunately, that is only a small piece of what we do. Rachel and Lauren took extra special care of this grieving family’s angel baby. They lovingly created the most beautiful memory box for this family to treasure for the rest of their lives. They carefully photographed her sweet face, cut a lock of her hair, made a mold of her hand, and when they finished they swaddled her in a beautiful pink blanket.

Thanks to the amazing work of these two nurses, they will have the most precious momento to help them hold onto the memory of their sweet baby girl. Rachel and Lauren are the epitomai of selflessness, empathy, compassion, and kindness.
