I felt a difference in Suz when I met her and I could tell she really did care.
Suz is very deserving of this award. My brother and I brought our mom to the Emergency Department. It was a busy day but Suz was so extremely kind to us! My mom was admitted to the hospital but she would not have a bed on the unit for an extended time. I know that Suz was very busy, but she took the time to order Mom a hospital bed, prepare the bed and move Mom to another room with a bathroom inside. Mom had urinary urgency and was so much more comfortable in that room. She has easy access to the bathroom and slept much better in the bed than on the standard emergency room stretcher tables. I was so grateful to Suz as it would have been so uncomfortable for Mom on that stretcher for a long period of time. The fact that someone took the time to listen to us and took time out of their busy schedule to accommodate us was fantastic.
Suz was also very kind and attentive to Mom’s questions about her medication. Mom was worried about taking her Singular for her allergies. Suz took the time to make sure it was ordered. We did not have a lot of other requests, but she was so patient and kind with what Mom did want. Being a hospital nurse myself, I know when someone has a true genuine heart and cares for a person as opposed to it just being “their job”. I felt a difference in Suz when I met her and I could tell she really did care even though she was busy. She is such a sweet soul and in the right place. Suzanne Balkas is so deserving of this award and our family could not have been more pleased.
