Right from the start Jen's compassion and patience were well-recognized.
Jen was a shining light that initiated the best surgical experience I've ever had in my life. Right from the start Jen's compassion and patience were well-recognized. I have a history of traumatic brain injury and hypoglycemia so add those together and let's just say my processing speed and overall communication and cognition were lagging that morning. Any time I needed to pause to think she let me do so without rushing me. Every question was directed to me, not my caregiver first, and then if I needed help, she was willing to hear from that individual. It was very clear to me that she read my medical history and was following all the notes provided by myself and/or my outpatient care team.

I felt so safe with her affirming the importance of monitoring my glucose all throughout my stay. She also made sure to communicate all my needs to the entire surgical team which was very impressive. When we were talking about allergies, I have several that are rare, such as an allergy to ice so she hung up a red piece of paper above my bed that stated so. It's the first hospital stay/surgery (and I've had a lot of stays at places) in which I was never given ice topically or in my water even though it's often routine. I know I have Jen to thank for that!

Something else that really impressed me was that as my caregiver was leaving, Jen stopped her in the hall and took the time to ask her if there was anything else she felt like I needed. She didn't have to do that, but she chose to!

Lastly, even though I could honestly go on and on, Jen honored my communication needs with my Auditory Processing Disorder being sure to let all the staff know and to make sure that only one person talked to me at a time. I am so grateful for Jen for being the center of all of my care!
