Nurse Becky’s compassion, her humility, her continuous energy flow, are contagious. She gets it!
I am a Veteran of the United States Navy and am proud and honored for the opportunity to nominate Becky Reyes, LPN of my Patient Aligned Care Team (PACT). Private experiences are just that, but I can promise you that Nurse Becky cares about and for me this past year plus could truly not be topped. All that know me in the VHA know my standards are high and unwavering all based on the HHA’s own words, including, but not limited to the Mission, Vision, Values (ICARE), and the Nursing Pledge to our Veterans. These words are the foundation of Veterans Care and VA employees' commitment. Words without action are empty.
My whole PACT team are all champions and am honored to have them on my team, but this nomination is for Nurse Becky. She is my main contact and go-to for the past year plus. Along comes Nurse Becky. She understands the words and is proactive with action. Nurse Becky has never failed to hear the words of the VA/VHA. Her commitment to the Nursing Pledge is second to none. She lives every word through action. To describe the truth about nurse Becky, I do as usual for me I start with a foundation. I went to the book of Fundamentals of Nursing, The Art and Science of Nursing Care Unit1: Foundation for nursing practice. The first words that appear on the page are as follows: Based on any philosophy of nursing seems to be these three concepts:
1-reverence for the gift of life.
2-Respect for the dignity, work, autonomy, and individuality of each human being.
3- Resolution to act dynamically in the relations to one's beliefs.
There are special humans that not only get it, they live it. Nurse Becky’s compassion, her humility, her continuous energy flow, are contagious. She gets it! Only one has to meet her to understand what a special and wonderful person she is. She is an asset to the VHA, the Asheville VAMC, the Franklin CBOC, the community and our Nation.
