Christine wanted him to get stronger, so she set the Alexa for every 20 minutes, and then she would go in the room and have the patient do exercises in his bed.
Christine advocated for a patient to provide a safe discharge home. Our young patient was so weak and unable to walk safely. He was facing challenges being placed in a skilled nursing facility (SNF). She contacted the physician, explained this was not a safe discharge and came up with a plan with the physician. The plan was to work with the patient in the hospital, as opposed to sending them to an SNF so that the patient could go home. This nurse involved the dietician to make sure they were set up for a healthy lifestyle. She wanted him to get stronger, so she set the Alexa for every 20 minutes, and then she would go in the room and have the patient do exercises in his bed. She was his coach and had the whole team cheering him on. The patient was so thrilled and willing to participate. He appreciated all the support from her and the care team. A few days later, he was walking short distances and safe to go home. Thank you for advocating for our patients; this is truly humanity at work.
