When asked why he arrives so early, he stated that he knew Julie would keep him safe and that it was the only time he could rest.
Julie studied nursing at Nebraska Methodist School of Nursing in Omaha, Nebraska, and obtained her Registered Nurse (RN) license in 1980. Julie joined St. Anthony Regional Hospital in 1992 and has worked in the medical-surgical unit, intensive care unit, and dialysis. Julie and her husband live in Wall Lake and have two grown children residing in Omaha, Nebraska. A portion of the nomination submission read:
“There are over 30 years of stories for Julie but there is one particular story that stands out from the rest. There was a long-term patient that passed away last year. He would arrive at St. Anthony at 3:30 a.m. (with his dialysis not starting until 5 a.m.) and he would sit in the waiting room. When asked why he arrives so early, he stated that he knew Julie would keep him safe and that it was the only time he could rest. He trusted Julie that much. It’s this story along with many others that Julie deserves the DAISY Award for extraordinary nurses.”
The kind of work the nurses at St. Anthony Hospital are called on to do every day epitomizes the purpose of The DAISY Award. “It is important to recognize the extraordinary work that nurses perform in every area, and it was exciting to present this award to Julie during National Nurses Week,” said Vice President of Patient Services and Chief Nursing Officer at St. Anthony.
