The patients trust Cheri. She sees every patient as an individual with his or her own specific needs.
She is an extraordinary team member. As a resident, I am often switching between rotation sites - in and out of clinics and hospital floors - and I am meeting a lot of people in the process. Cheri stands out as one of the most welcoming people whom I have encountered since first starting residency. From day one, Cheri makes sure that residents feel like they are part of the team at the Sanford Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP). Not only does that help me as a resident not feel like I'm just 'passing through' on a rotation, but I also think that fostering that team environment ultimately can lead to patients receiving the highest quality of care when everyone is on the same page, and everyone feels like they have a sense of ownership as a team member.

The patients trust Cheri. She sees every patient as an individual with his or her own specific needs. Cheri is so personable. This is a quality that lends itself well to an environment like PHP where patients are only there for a short period of time. Patients know that they can come to Cheri with concerns during the day and she will address those concerns promptly and help patients get their needs met before the day's end. She is good at communicating with the physicians and other members of the team and makes sure to deliver high-quality care for our patients every day at PHP.

Cheri has a lot of compassion for our patients at PHP and makes sure to do thorough chart reviews before they even enter the door on admission day. There has been more than one occasion when she is able to let the team know pertinent information about a patient that hadn't been mentioned during a morning meeting. This work ethic certainly shows that Cheri values patient-centered care. She spends time learning about each patient as an individual so that on the first day of admission (which tends to be a very emotionally taxing day for our patients) she knows their histories and can help ease their way through the admission process. Cheri is highly deserving of a DAISY Award - she has been so welcoming to all of us resident physicians and shows that same level of warmth, care, and compassion for the patients and their families. I feel fortunate that I was able to work with her for three months last year and want to make sure that she is recognized for everything she brings to Sanford PHP!
