Having surgery is frightening enough. But then facing an unexpected complication that is life-threating...that fear can be unmeasurable for the family.

“It was a frantic, terrifying situation. My significant other experienced ‘med build-up’ because his kidneys were not filtering properly,” said the family member. Brandon Zolynsky, RN, quickly assessed and reacted to the patient’s condition in the Emergency Department. Once the patient was stabilized with a Narcan injection, Brandon took the time to explain to the family that the patient was experiencing an opioid overdose (following a recent spine surgery). Brandon’s calm demeanor and clear, concise information reassured the family.

“Once he knew his patient was moving in the right direction, Brandon also took a moment to inquire how I was doing. Experiencing an emergency event was overwhelming at best, yet seeing Brandon’s care, compassion, talents, and knowledge in action put my slow-motion feelings and confusion in check for me,” said the family member. “Brandon took care of everyone in his space. I’d like to recognize that special attention to detail and thank him once again. I truly appreciate you and wish you good health and happiness.”
