Had Allison not advocated so hard for his abdominal CT scan and abdominal US, we would have not found he had moderate right-sided hydronephrosis with a suspected UPJ obstruction.
I am currently a Women's Services Facilitator and my son was seen in the Children's ED. Allison Buck was our nurse and from the moment she stepped foot in his room she made sure to speak to him (he's 5) about how he was feeling, everything she was doing including things she was opening (IV start kit), and showed him how not to be afraid of a "drinking straw" in his arm. He had presented with a fever of 105 the night prior with continued lethargy and c/o abdominal pain and cough. Allison advocated for him to have a workup for pneumonia as well as appendicitis.

Had Allison not advocated so hard for his abdominal CT scan and abdominal US, we would have not found he had moderate right-sided hydronephrosis with a suspected UPJ obstruction. He was admitted to 2W and given IV abx as his pneumonia progressed. Urology/Nephrology both said there was nothing to do with the kidney as it likely had no function and was congenital and to follow up outpatient.

Eastern Pediatrics advised us to be seen by Duke Urology where he had a nuclear kidney study and just 5 days later had a right pyeloplasty at Duke and follow-up stent removal surgery 6 weeks later, preserving the 30% function that the kidney has. God worked through Allison that night to advocate and push for him to have further testing and be admitted to 2W to look more into his hydronephrosis and without her, none of this would have played out as well as it did. I know this is delayed but now that the surgeries have been completed I wanted to give her a huge shout-out.

Side note: it was sweet for her to get to take care of my baby as I was her nurse on Antepartum as well.
