Her kindness and her presence in a time when our family was feeling overwhelmed, scared, and tired were extremely appreciated.
This past June, my family spent some time at Lowell General with my Mother-In-Law. Upon arrival, "M" spent a few days in the PCU then she was discharged to Rehab. After not even a full day in Rehab, she fell, broke her hip, and was back in the ED. After hip surgery, she was placed on D4. Throughout her stay, her care was great; however, as exhaustion and worry set in within the family, Gia was exactly what we needed. Gia was attentive & patient with the five siblings and answered all their questions, each one with kindness. "M's" primary caregiver is my sister-in-law. Having no medical knowledge, she asked a lot of questions so that she could understand the best way to help her in and out of the hospital. Gia took the time to explain procedures, meds, and lab values to my sister-in-law so that she could understand why certain courses of treatment were ordered and being followed. Gia also was extremely kind to "M" and took the time to talk with her, consistently re-orient her, and just take time to make her feel good. She took the time to ask her what she liked to eat and made sure that she was comfortable and had what she needed. "M" was very confused during her stay. Her kindness and her presence in a time when our family was feeling overwhelmed, scared, and tired were extremely appreciated. Though I am a nurse here at Lowell, I take the back seat, and I am the daughter-in-law when it comes to "M." Each night when we left visiting, we felt at peace knowing that Gia was on and was looking after "M" until someone arrived the next morning. Thank you, Gia, for your kindness, patience, and your comfort to my family & "M" during her stay.
