Emma stood out because of her compassion and empathy.
I was admitted to ward A23 and had surgery for an ectopic pregnancy. The care I received from all the healthcare professionals I met was consistently outstanding, but I felt that Emma stood out because of her compassion and empathy. The morning after surgery, I had to fill out a consent form to indicate what I would like to be done with the remains, and initially, I was not in an emotional place to be able to process any of the information.

Emma was kind and patient with me. She took the time to sensitively explain everything, repeat information, and help me to decide what was right for me. I couldn't have made the right decision for myself at that moment without her support, and I'm especially grateful because as a patient in a hospital, a lot of things are out of your control, so being able to make a choice for yourself is really important. I also really appreciate the fact that Emma treated my early pregnancy loss like any other loss and didn't downplay it.

As well as looking after my emotional needs, Emma helped me with physical care. I couldn't walk more than a few steps, but I attempted to walk anyway and then became distressed when I couldn't do it. Emma recognized that I was trying to push myself too soon, comforted me, and brought me a wheelchair. She saw me when I was at my most vulnerable and I want her to know that she had a huge positive impact during an incredibly difficult time and I'm very grateful for her help and support.
