Yaseem has demonstrated an uncanny ability to connect with patients even if they had challenging traits. She has great instincts about what patients need spiritually. One instance while in mental health clinics, I recall that she was talking with a patient who was having some sort of sadness, but couldn't express in what way. Yasmeen found some art supplies and sat with the patient who just started coloring with the supplies Yasmeen brought. Yasmeen just sat with her while she colored.
Another instance was at the Geriatric clinical where Yasmeen spent time with one particularly challenging patient who would come into our group sessions and just start playing random notes on a piano that was nearby. She talked to him about his passion for music, and the next day, he brought an audio recording of his choir singing songs in Italian. At the end of the clinical several residents wanted to take pictures with her, so she posed with them and displayed a most genuine smile. Even in simulations, during our simulation with a sundowners patient, she had the correct instincts to engage the patient in the timeframe they were referencing. Because of her absolutely fantastic skills in communication and reading the social situation, she made scenarios where the team was floundering, and succeeded.
