Heidi was exceptional in every way. She cared for my 94-year-old mother, who has been battling a series of health issues and has been down in the dumps. Heidi was constantly positive and upbeat, and she treated Mom’s every request or need as if it were the most important thing on her schedule, no matter how minor it might have been in the overall scheme of things. I have been Mom’s primary caregiver for several months and thought I was doing a decent job, but watching Heidi work and interact with Mom gave me new insight and perspective on what it means to be a compassionate caregiver. She displayed the patience of Job (as Mom would say) and a keen sense of humor that kept Mom in good spirits throughout her visit. On multiple occasions, she proactively tried different things to improve Mom’s level of comfort and was very successful. Mom told me several times that it seemed like Heidi showed up at her door even before Mom had finished ringing her call button and that Heidi must have run from the nurse’s station to get there so quickly (probably not too far from the truth - haha). Heidi was always available to provide me an update and to look after my requests to stay in close communication with the attending doctors. Mom recently relocated to Arizona from central Pennsylvania, and she spent several days there in a first-rate trauma center ICU for rib fractures where the care was above average, but it really did not compare to the care she received on her visit to Mayo Hospital 5 Central. We wish everyone the good fortune of having Heidi look after them in their time of need!
