There are several reasons why my nomination goes to this RN for the DAISY Award. The most important is that the values and principles of nursing demonstrated by this visiting nurse are in tandem with the organization's mission statement. I recall an instance where the patient was feeling overwhelmed and had a diagnosis of cancer with metastasis, and she called the office crying, stating that the nurse who visited her was a blessing. She expressed, "For the first time, I felt like I was being heard; it was not about what everyone else wanted, but about what I wanted. She spent a few hours with me talking, explaining everything in detail, and focused on what my needs were so that we could come up with a plan to better manage my care since I was not ready for hospice. She even called the doctors to clarify things. The nurse helped physically, emotionally, and spiritually; she is an angel God sent. Sometimes people do not realize what we are going through and assume things, do not take the time, and are cold and not empathetic. The nurse was excellent; we connected, we cried together, and I was inspired to not give up and to fight this cancer." The visiting nurse undertakes actions that are aimed at enhancing and restoring the well-being of individuals in our community. To prevent illness among clients, she ensures that the care she offers to clients is holistic regarding nurturing the spirit, body, and mind. Secondly, she alleviates the pain and suffering of patients by ensuring that she inclines toward evidence-based practice to obtain the most positive results for her clients. The nurse also behaves in a morally acceptable manner and ensures the rights of her patients are protected. Thirdly, she educates individuals in the community on wellness through collaborating with individual patients and their families to foster communication regarding the best possible quality of life. The most unique characteristic of this nurse, however, is that she delivers care in a compassionate manner while embracing the ethnic and cultural diversity of clients and their families. In conclusion, she deserves this award based on the high quality and compassionate nursing services she offers patients and their families. Moreover, she is always willing to share her knowledge with others around her; this nurse is Donna Bailey.
