For me, no one can beat Jennifer when it comes to skills and critical thinking in how she managed difficult situations.
We had an incident wherein we were doing an operation and we are using VIMS lap tower. We have a surgeon that gave us a hard time even if we are doing our best to prepare everything and attend to his needs, but still, he keeps on shouting and always finding faults and mistakes.
As scrub nurses and circulating nurses, we felt the pressure, but whatever the surgeon does, Jennifer remains calm and even encouraged us to control our emotions and just focus on the needs of the patient. On the same day, while we are doing an operation, we did not notice that the monitor was damaged and no one knows what happened, nobody in that room admitted his/her mistake. The machine is very expensive, so our head nurse called for a meeting about the incident.
I was touched because she sacrificed and took the blame, and she stands for her team even if we know that it was not her fault. I have a lot of good stories about her. Every time is our team leader, we are very thankful, and we feel safe and secure because we know that in spite our busy we are and how complicated our duty may be, we feel that the work is light and easygoing.
Among the team leaders I worked with, she is one of a kind, she will always do good things for others first, and she is willing to help. She’s a good person inside and outside work. For me, no one can beat her when it comes to skills and critical thinking in how she managed difficult situations, especially in our unit we are dealing with 2 lives (mother and baby) so it really needs good decision-making which she possessed.
