Steve went above and beyond to make sure R was able to discharge on time. R had been promised he would go home earlier in the week but needed to get a hospital bed at home first. Somehow the order for the hospital bed kept getting lost in the shuffle, either written wrong by the doctor or not getting to the correct person on time. Steve was diligent, calling on-call providers, the care manager, repeatedly, and DME to make sure the bed was ordered and delivered. By the time this was all done the care manager had gone home for the day, so Steve figured out how to set up transportation with a stretcher all on his own. Without Steve, R would have to stay another night away from his loved ones – only because he needed a bed. Steve worked endlessly to make this happen and I know he cares for so many of his patients the same.
