Her endurance and desire to spend quality time with each patient are what make her a superstar at what she does.
The floor I work on can be very stressful at times due to the number of patients we treat every day. One of those clinics is dermatology, one of the busiest and more complex clinics here at Parkland, yet the nurse I am nominating for the DAISY Award finds the time and patience to go above and beyond for all patients she interacts with. Her endurance and desire to spend quality time with each patient are what make her a superstar at what she does.
Desiree Jackson is the type of nurse who listens to patients’ concerns and makes sure their concerns do not go unnoticed. As a county hospital, Parkland serves patients who would otherwise be unable to have access to healthcare. From emotional distress to physical rehabilitation, every patient need is different. Yet Desiree seems to be an expert in all areas. She is extremely knowledgeable, and she respects the opinions of those around her. She also accepts constructive criticism. I have watched her work ethic and how she communicates and keeps patients’ personal information private. From discharging a patient, finding the provider, addressing the problem, and going out of her way to change an appointment that needs to be rescheduled, seeing a patient smile and be grateful to be helped by Desiree is what demonstrates how she exemplifies the I-CARE values.
It is very rare that I hear a complaint from a patient or a staff member in regard to Desiree. All things being considered, being in the healthcare field is more than just a “ROLE” it is more than just a job, it takes time, dedication, and most of all endearment. She has achieved so much in participating and creating in-services for the staff to gain a better understanding of the topics she presents to provide quality care for our patients. In spite of the fact that she goes above and beyond, there is no need to ask. Because before you know it, she has already taken the initiative to help out where it is needed, and she demonstrates extraordinary clinical skills and compassionate care. Her quality of care is what is needed in a healthcare setting.
She exemplifies the kind of nurse that individuals strive to have on their team and she has the kind of guidance patients are in need of. There is no greater way to thank her than to recognize her for her high standard of service to our clinic and our patients.
