Losing a loved one is one of the most challenging life experiences. Losing our "mom, grams, mimi" the matriarch of our family- was an experience impossible for any one of us to prepare for. The loving support and compassion we experienced from Katie during our mom's final days was a true gift from God. She worked tirelessly to be sure our mom was comfortable, clean, and could pass with dignity surrounded by her entire family. She took time to patiently explain the decline in our mom's health to us. Sometimes more than once we held vigil at mom's bedside until her passing. In addition to lovingly taking care of our mom, this nurse went above and beyond to take care of all of us so we could remain together as a family. Since the cafeteria was closed and no one wanted to leave the hospital, Katie graciously arranged for us to have coffee and water and somehow managed to find each of us a chair. She was always available to us while providing the same superior level of care to her other patients.
