Colleen called the doctor in West Palm beach and was able to get all the things we needed to be ordered so my husband could have his medication.
I would like to nominate a nurse at the Providence VA for helping with a medical issue my husband had this summer while we were staying here in Rhode Island. We are from Florida and use the West Palm Beach VA for my husband's primary care is there at West Palm Beach. But my husband comes to the Providence VA when we are here in Rhode Island. I think the care and compassion the nurse provided us in my spouse’s situation was above and beyond what others have done for us in the past. This nurse is Colleen Printer RN. We came to the Providence VA because my husband had been seen and admitted at South County Hospital for a blood clot. He was put on Blood thinners Eliquis. We were given a free 30-day supply of the Eliquis. But we are here in Rhode Island for 6 months. We called the Palm Beach VA where he is followed and I was left on hold for 6 hours. I left a message with the primary care nurse but after 24 hours had still not received a callback. So we decided to go to the pharmacy at the Providence VA, where my husband is seen by other doctors for care. The pharmacy told us they could not fill the prescription and to try Express Care.
We arrived at Express Care and were greeted by a very lovely lady. Colleen offered to assist us. She called the doctor in West Palm beach and was able to get all the things we needed to be ordered so my husband could have his medication. She also connected us with another lovely nurse. This nurse asked many questions and walked the doctor through how to help us get the medication he needs.
We want to thank both of these women for all their help. Colleen did not have to help us, but she took the time and we were with her in an office for over an hour. But left renewed in our faith in the care the VA provides. She even called us a week later to make sure everything worked out and we received the medication we needed.
