Jodi spoke to the AOD, Pharmacy, the Infusion Center and even looked up more education to share with the nurses on the floor, so everyone was prepared.
We had a patient that was a hemophiliac that was coming to UPMC Mercy for a surgical procedure. It took weeks of planning prior to the procedure for the team to come up with a plan to care for this patient. There were emails swirling about how to plan and how to handle this patient's condition. Joni was in charge of the PACU and did everything to accommodate this patient and educate all involved about the situation. She spoke to the patient’s wife to make sure everyone was on the same page with the administration of the medication. The medication was time sensitive. Jodi spoke to the AOD, Pharmacy, the Infusion Center and even looked up more education to share with the nurses on the floor, so everyone was prepared. All parties were reassured by Joni taking the initiative to do so, including the patient and his wife. This kind of coordination of care and teamwork is central to the patient experience here at UPMC Mercy. Thank you, Joni, for all you do to care for your patients every day and keep them safe!
