Kathy has devoted her life’s work to the compassionate care of patients, peers, staff nurses, families, and many, many other colleagues. She has demonstrated her dedication to nursing by promoting a positive image of nursing. She has been a tireless supporter of Shared Governance, empowered, and inspired 100s of nurses, coached and mentored leaders and staff alike, and led the organization through a pandemic.

Kathy advocates for nurses and for the improvement of patient care. She demonstrates active engagement in professional development in herself and others. She has led the organization through Joint Commission visits and 3 Magnet Designation site visits. During her tenure, Kathy has worked to advance and empower nurses through participation in Shared Governance across the organization. She worked fearlessly and tirelessly to help others understand the importance of Advanced Practice Nurses. Additionally, she has been instrumental in driving nursing research, quality, and evidence-based practice. Kathy ALWAYS has the patient and family at the center of her thoughts and motivation. Patient care is at the core of Kathy’s being. For these reasons, Kathy Bechtel is the perfect inaugural DAISY Lifetime Achievement Award recipient at Froedtert Hospital.
