Heath’s dedication and hard work have kept over 1,000 patients out of the hospital and able to stay at home where they are comfortable and surrounded by family.
Undoubtedly, the COVID-19 pandemic has been the most difficult time for healthcare workers and patients in recent history. There are so many nurses working at Summit Healthcare worthy of this honorable award but one stands out above all and has been such an impact on the community that he undeniably deserves to be recognized as a DAISY Nurse.

Heath Pickering has started and oversees the COVID at Home program. Heath started this program a little over a year ago with the idea that it could help with the huge influx of patients coming into the hospital and needing to be admitted. He felt and saw the strain COVID was putting on nurses, doctors, and support staff but more importantly how difficult it was on patients themselves that were already in the hospital or waiting for a bed. He implemented this program to help keep patients at home with their loved ones and to ease the hardship on hospital staff. COVID at Home has blossomed into something amazing and life-changing for not only the hospital but patients as well. Heath’s dedication and hard work have kept over 1,000 patients out of the hospital and able to stay at home where they are comfortable and surrounded by family.

Working alongside him with this program, I have heard countless patient testimonies about how thankful they are to be able to stay at home during their recovery and have peace of mind knowing they are not alone during such a scary and stressful time. Heath has essentially worked non-stop for over a year to make this program run smoothly for the patients and the hospital. With minimal days off; working nights, weekends, and holidays. Serving as the leader for everybody involved, he has orchestrated everything this program needs both behind the scenes and with direct patient contact nearly every day. It goes without question how dedicated he is to making this program not only great but an example to other hospitals around the state.

The COVID at Home program has now become a model of patient care not only for COVID patients but now transitioning into helping patients with chronic illnesses heal at home, changing the future for patient care. There is no doubt in my mind that this program has saved and changed many lives. Heath deserves so much recognition and appreciation for all he has done to make COVID at Home the incredible service it is today.
