Recently CVICU had a patient that suffered from a cardiac arrest. The patient was requiring multiple vasopressors to support him. Unfortunately, the day after his cardiac arrest his wife fell and broke her hip. She needed to have surgery to replace her hip. Jess heard about the situation and immediately said they should be able to see each other before her surgery. Jess started facilitating that they would be able to see each other. The wife was not able to leave her unit so Jess asked the critical care provider if he could leave the unit to see his wife. After having a plan in place he was asked if he would like to go see his wife before her surgery. He readily agreed to the plan. Jess assisted the primary nurse in taking him to see his wife for the first time since his cardiac arrest. The couple was so happy to be reunited again for a little time before her surgery. This is not the only time that Jess has gone above and beyond for her patients. Jess is well known on the unit for compassionate and competent care. Jess always takes time to do baths for her patients and braid their hair. She always leaves her patients in pristine condition. Not only does Jess care well for her patients but also her coworkers. She is always willing to help wherever needed and is a great resource on the unit. Jess truly is the epitome of what a nurse should be.
