It was confusing but Monica diligently worked through it for the safety and survival of the patient.
Monica's requirements for her job end as the patient arrives to PACU but Monica is a team player and continued to help out. It was a Sunday "on-call" shift and the patient needed a blood transfusion. The patient had received anesthesia and could not sign the paper herself. Monica tracked down the POA and got the consent signed (the family had returned to her pre-op room). Monica also used her E.R. knowledge to enter CPOE orders for T & S, transfusion of PRBCs, and gave the transfusion. She spent a lot of time talking to Lab and the CRNA as the patient had a blood band on but never had a T & S. It was confusing but Monica diligently worked through it for the safety and survival of the patient. Monica was very professional as she worked with family, floor staff, Lab, CRNA, and PACU nurse.
