Sarah saw me through the pain, called the Doctor at 10:00 pm and did what she could to make me comfortable.
Being in a situation I never dreamed I would be in and making choices I never thought I would have to make. I am stuck with an ileus which could happen to anyone. All the time, I was in extreme discomfort as things flared up. Basically, some of the worst discomfort of my life. Sarah saw me through the pain, called the Doctor at 10:00 pm and did what she could to make me comfortable. The Doctor came and it was decided to give me morphine. Keep in mind I am still in crazy pain. So, I get drugged up and still feel the pain - throw up a few times causing another call to the Doctor. He said if I kept throwing up to do the Ng tube but if not then we could wait until the morning. This is where Sarah really stepped up - I did not continue to throw up. She talked to me to get through the pain, and we discussed what was going on and looked at all the possibilities. Even though the NG tube was not supposed to be used, she discussed it to me, and it made sense that I needed a relief valve, and this really was my only option. I had pain through the morphine and was not getting better. The "wait until morning" approach would leave me in extreme discomfort. Sarah showed me the pros and cons. She told me what I would be going through and how it was not easy. But most important she treated me not as a random patient but as someone she was trying to help. She put her heart into educating me and not letting me make the only rational choice, made me feel how much she cared for my well-being and that's why she deserves this accolade. As it turns out, I do believe had I not gotten Sarah that night, I probably would be in a lot worse shape now. So, I can honestly say she changed my life for the better. In sum - she went beyond her call and job scope for me which in turn really did have a huge impact on my life. She was selfless, doing this for me which created more work for her. Finally, I also credit her with saving me from additional pain and suffering because of her actions.
