If it had not been for Shangling's strong clinical knowledge, experience and high sense of advocacy, and insistence the outcome of this event could have been very different.
I would like to share an event that happened today that made me remember how much Shangling, RN does for Acuity Adaptable and our patients and the reason why I would like to nominate her for The DAISY Award.

As I was conducting audits, I became intrigued about one of the foley orders I was reviewing. When Shangling proceeded to give me report, I quickly found out that she was concerned about this particular patient. She explained to me that the primary nurse taking care of this patient had contacted her about the patient having hematuria. When Shangling assessed the patient, she noticed that he was experiencing a lot of pain and confirmed the nurse's findings. As Shangling reached out to the team, she insisted that they re-evaluate the patient as she did not agree with what they thought was causing the bleed. Based on her experience, she knew that what she was seeing with this patient needed further evaluation.

As I did a little more research to try to figure out the foley indication, I noticed it had been determined that there was something else going on with the patient that needed immediate attention, a finding that led the patient to the operating room. If it had not been for Shangling's strong clinical knowledge, experience and high sense of advocacy, and insistence the outcome of this event could have been very different. I commend this wonderful nurse whose qualities often go unnoticed due to her humbleness. I feel very fortunate to work with a nurse like Shangling, who continues to be a mentor for many of our nurses, new and experienced. Her love for Acuity Adaptable and for the patients we serve is clearly seen through her advocacy and the quality of care she provides day to day. Please consider Shangling Liang for The DAISY Award, as I firmly believe she is truly deserving of this distinction given to only extraordinary nurses, which she truly is.
