I was in the ED due to an upset stomach. My blood work showed I had an elevated white blood cell count which was probably caused by the vomiting most of the night. The doctor gave me the option of having a CT scan which I declined at the time. When Lauren came back into the room to disconnect the IV, I was talking to her about it. I explained that I lost my wife to cancer last year and she had an elevated white blood cell count. I have seen and felt a nurse go from doing her job to being a caring and compassionate person. That’s a characteristic that is not taught, it just happens, and it provided a calming feeling for me. I would like to nominate her for being caring and compassionate toward this patient. I did end up getting the CT scan. Thank you.
