Gabriella cared for a patient who was receiving end of life care. She was recognized by the palliative care team for the great care she provided to this patient and his family. She did a great job advocating for this patient’s needs in a situation that was multifaceted and rapidly changing. His imminent death was very stressful for his loving family and Gabriella handled it so well. She supported the family through the dying process and continued to treat him with compassion and respect through the post-mortem care.

In addition one of our NPs shared that she was very impressed by the example Gabriella was setting for the student nurse that was shadowing her. She was working in a very stressful situation and dealing with a family that was in a state of extreme anguish. She showed exceptional clinical care and judgment when advocating for the best possible medical choices to optimize care for the management of his symptoms. She provided emotional support to the patient and his family and ensured that her patient was receiving the proper pain medications to allow him a peaceful and comfortable transition. While a family in distress can be overwhelming and intimidating, Gabriella did not hesitate to jump into the firestorm, providing them kindness and compassion.
