She said she saw my name and had come to check on me. She did not have to do this, but she did it because she has a big heart.
I have an exceptional nurse I would like to nominate for The DAISY Award. I have been a patient several times this year, so I have had quite a few nurses take care of me. There is one that truly stands out in my eyes. I have been having problems with keeping my ammonia levels down. When my level goes above a certain level, I begin to forget and do dangerous and stupid things. When I was last brought to the ER I began to be very combative. When I woke up I was in a room and my hands and feet were in restraints, and no one would release me. I begged my family, nurses, and anyone I saw to please release me and no one would. Finally, a nurse Melissa came in and we talked. She understood I wanted to sit up. She helped me transfer to the chair as long as my daughter was there. Melissa stayed with me for a while and we talked.

Two weeks later I was back and needed a blood transfusion, colonoscopy, and endoscopy. I was in a room and all of a sudden, there was Nurse Melissa peeking in. She said she saw my name and had come to check on me. She did not have to do this, but she did it because she has a big heart. She is very professional and caring.

From the daughter: It was that moment that changed my mom’s recovery. From the moment she got to sit and move to that chair, it was like she came back to life. I am blown away by how amazing Nurse Melissa is. We need her to know she will always have a special place with us. She literally saved my mom.
