As soon as she saw my face, she knew automatically that I was in a lot of pain. She gathered all the info on what had been going on and she hopped right onto it.
My nurse, Bentun, is so special. I was in pretty bad shape with my sickle cell crisis. I was hurting mostly in my legs and lower back. The lab results came back in and they saw that my numbers were all out of place so it felt like I was on a rollercoaster with the new RNs, MDs, and Family Practice who didn’t really know me. So I gave them a little run down on my background history of myself. I’m thinking we were on the same page, giving them my pain regimen on what I need for pain meds while I’m in the hospital. I also told them to check my medical chart on what the medicalist normally gives me and what works. At this point, I’m thinking that all of us are on the same page which all of us agreed on, but, that wasn’t the case because day by day, my pain level and numbers were getting worse. I’m thinking they were going to raise the dosage so I can feel better but, in the meantime, they kept lowering the dose which made my body more in pain than what I started off with. At this point, I’m ready to change doctors, because no one was listening to me, which is frustrating as a grown adult who knows her body, and what will work and what does not work.

Now, it’s days later, and I’m asking the charge nurse how I go about changing doctors. She said she would get in touch with the president of the hospital and let him know my concerns. I did not hear back from them because it was 5 PM on Friday. I was in so much pain and come to find out Bentung was my RN for today. I automatically had a smile on my face because I knew she would take care of me as she always does. As soon as she saw my face, she knew automatically that I was in a lot of pain. She gathered all the info on what had been going on and she hopped right onto it. She talked to the charge nurse, House Supervisor, and my MD, who had just become my doctor today. She had gotten me back on my regimen. Thank you, Bentung! You show true love, and you always have my back. You are my super-woman!
