Lisa remained in the unit to provide assistance to the ICU team and ensure that the team was able to manage not only the emergent situation at hand but also tend to our other patients in the unit.
Recently, we had a particularly challenging night in the Intensive Care Unit. The team immediately recognized that one of our young patients was not doing well and jumped into action. Lisa was the nursing supervisor that evening and knew we were short on nurses, so she did everything possible to try to get help in the unit. Not only did she reach out to team members for help, but she also remained on the unit for some time to assist and be extra hands for the team. The decision was made to transfer a patient out emergently and with no secretary, this left the nursing team trying desperately to get the ball rolling. Lisa, again, was right there to lend a hand, making phone calls, and putting together transfer packets. When she recognized the patient was quickly decompensating, her nursing senses kicked into full gear, and she immediately grabbed the code cart and made sure we had all the necessary items should we need them. Unfortunately, the patient declined further. Lisa remained in the unit to provide assistance to the ICU team and ensure that the team was able to manage not only the emergent situation at hand but also tend to our other patients in the unit. I know that this extra time and attention to the unit was not easy when a nursing supervisor has to juggle all areas of the hospital, but her positive attitude and willingness to help spoke volumes and made such a difference to our team and our patients that night. Thank you!
