Nurse Johnny Tazbir cares, he listens, he acts, and he is genuine. Care—all nurses care or they would not be in the nursing profession. Most go beyond the norm because they’re compassionate in providing care. Nurse Johnny Tazbir goes beyond even that norm above. How do I know this? In July I spent three days in Banner Boswell Hospital in Phoenix being treated for pneumonia. Mr. Tazbir was on the night shift for each of those three days. He goes beyond the attributes this fine award calls for. I know this because of those three days he cared for me. But know, too, because I’ve been a cancer patient since 2013 at some of the best hospitals in America. From Bone Marrow cancer and Acute Myloid Leukemia treatment at Johns Hopkins in Baltimore to Prostate cancer at Mayo Clinic in Phoenix. I was cared for by the best doctors and extraordinarily gifted nurses. I’ve learned over the past nine years what excellent medical care is. It’s saved my life more than once. Ok. So those are the credentials that allow me to speak to Johnny Tazbir’s excellence. Johnny is at the top of the mountain of the hundreds of wonderful nurses that have cared for me since my illnesses began. Not only are his clinical skills above par and his patient care exemplary, but he also possesses great compassion and listening skills. Johnny demonstrated this leadership trait repeatedly during my care. As he would execute the tasks at hand he made it clear he could hear and be responsive to my every need. On his break time, he would stop by my room for a moment to discuss the situation we were dealing with just earlier. He cares. He’s compassionate. He’s skilled. He knows how to lead.
