He showed love and care and treated me as if it was a privilege to take care of me.
I first want to mention that my stay was 8 days long and ALL the nursing care was excellent. I bring to your attention Jake’s bedside manner and commitment to bedside care because it was outstanding amongst excellent nursing caregivers. Jake was so cordial, so friendly, and brightened my stay every time he interacted with me. He was so upbeat and positive. In fact, he was also complimentary to additional clinical staff because he was so selfless and caring for his coworkers. But Jake wasn’t just nice and smiley, Jake was incredibly thorough. He spent time doing things that no one else did. For example, Jake was so intent on straightening out my med orders. My two providers from my oncology office had written several “conflicting” orders and he not only verified all of it, but he also weighed me daily to ensure that the pharmacy had the proper info to verify my meds were correct. Instead of feeling inconvenienced, I felt that I was in a very safe place and Jake was determined to make sure that no one made a med error with me. This commitment was priceless. I can’t tell you how much this made a difference to me. I have felt very safe during my stay here and it all started with Jake. Every time I said, “thank you" to Jake, he would say “my pleasure.” At some point, he explained to me why it was his pleasure to take care of me. He told me he loved coming to work and it was so clear to me this was genuinely from the heart. He showed love and care and treated me as if it was a privilege to take care of me. For a patient, any patient, we are vulnerable and the last thing I want to feel is a burden to someone, even an RN, whose job it is to take care of me. He never made me feel like it was his job. He made me know it was his mission. This final part - I will keep it brief…It may sound silly, but Jake knew the insides and out of every aspect of this room. He knew how to change everything electronically. He handled temperature, night light, lights, medical equipment, the bed - just everything - with the self-assurance of a Biomed team member. Again, it helped me feel safe and it gave me so much confidence in Jake going above and beyond in EVERY aspect of his nursing. Jake is an extraordinary asset to Mercy Gilbert and to the nursing profession in general. Thank you, Jake.
