Sonja was our little boy's nurse throughout his stay in the NICU. The first few days were the hardest, our son was airlifted an hour after being born to the NICU. The next day he had a spontaneous pneumothorax that required a chest tube, my husband and I were so worried and scared for our son. Sonja acknowledged our fears and walked us through the whole process. Many times, she advocated for our son. She was kind and very understanding with us. At times, we just needed someone to talk to and she was always there, her expertise and professionalism are such a relief for us fearful parents. We were at ease when we knew our son was being taken care of by Sonja. Further in our stay, Sonja was a friendly reminder that it isn’t all that bad in the NICU. She fed our son the highest amount of bottle mL than anyone, which only challenged my husband to be the first to feed our son a whole bottle. The challenge was on with him and Sonja on who would be the "winner". Obviously, our son was the one who did all the work, but moments like those, we will never forget. Sonja is such a great nurse and deserves recognition.
